Senior UX/UI Designer

About the Role

This senior UX/UI Designer role owns the experience and the interface from first research question to finished, build-ready design. You will decide how problems are framed and how flows are structured. You will also decide how every screen looks and behaves.

At senior level, you will set the standard for design quality. You will turn research and usability evidence into clear design decisions, and keep interfaces consistent through a shared component library.

This is a full-time, remote position, listed in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Applicants with any valid work rights for Australia are welcome.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and run user research, including interviews, surveys and usability tests, so design decisions rest on evidence about real user needs.
• Translate research findings into personas, journey maps and problem statements that define what each design must solve.
• Design information architecture and user flows that let users complete key tasks in the fewest clear steps.
• Produce wireframes and interactive prototypes that test ideas with users before any build effort is committed.
• Create high-fidelity, responsive UI designs that are visually consistent and ready to build across screen sizes.
• Build and maintain a design system of components, patterns and usage guidelines so new screens are faster to design and stay consistent.
• Apply WCAG accessibility standards to every design so interfaces work for people of all abilities.
• Prepare detailed design specifications, states and annotations so designs are implemented as intended.
• Review built interfaces against the approved designs and log discrepancies so released work matches design quality.
• Present design rationale and research evidence clearly so design decisions are understood and approved quickly.

What Success Looks Like

• Within 30 days, 5 user interviews or usability sessions are completed, with findings documented and prioritised (suggested).
• Within 60 days, 2 redesigned user flows are tested with at least 5 users each and approved for build (suggested).
• Within 90 days, a design system covering at least 20 core components is documented and used in all new design work (suggested).
• Every week, at least 1 usability insight or validated design change is documented and shared (suggested).

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience designing digital products across both UX and UI, from research to high-fidelity design.
• A portfolio showing end-to-end case studies, including your research process, design decisions and measured outcomes.
• Strong skills in user research methods, including interviews, usability testing and synthesis of findings.
• Expertise in interaction design, information architecture, visual design, typography and responsive layouts.
• Working knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards and how to apply them in interface design.
• Experience building or maintaining a design system or component library.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including presenting design rationale to non-designers while working remotely.
• Tools you will use: a collaborative interface design tool, a prototyping tool, a remote usability testing platform, and a design system documentation tool.

Nice to Have

• Working knowledge of HTML and CSS, enough to understand implementation constraints.
• Experience with analytics tools and A/B testing to measure the effect of design changes.
• Experience with motion and micro-interaction design.
• Experience facilitating design workshops remotely.
• Experience mentoring other designers or running design critiques.
