The technical interview

The Risenoow technical interview is a second conversation with the same AI interviewer as your first interview, this time about the work itself. It happens in your browser, in a tab of its own, after the camera and sound check. You answer by voice, take your time, and the hiring team reads the transcript and watches any recording afterwards.

Where: Start the interview after the camera and sound check, from your invitation link

Who takes it: Shortlisted candidates who were invited

Time needed: The length shown on your invitation, for example about 25 minutes

After the interview, your candidate portal shows when you completed it.

The interview room

At the top you see Technical interview and the role, the state of the voice link and a timer. In the middle, the interviewer's voice is shown as a moving shape, with the name of whoever is speaking: Technical interviewer or your first name.

Part What it does

Diagram When the employer attached a picture or diagram to a question, it appears on screen while that question is asked.
Your picture A small view of your camera, with a recording dot and the time so far.

Turn camera off Turns your camera off when it is optional. Select Turn camera on to bring it back.
Show transcript Opens the conversation so far.

Background blur

Blur keeps your room private. It only appears when your device can keep up with it. If not, your picture says "Background blur is not available on this device." and your room stays sharp, so you may want to sit in front of a plain wall.

Camera on, optional or not used

  • Camera optional. You can keep your camera on or off. Your audio is recorded either way.
  • Camera on. The employer asked for the camera to stay on for the whole interview, and the camera button cannot be turned off. If your camera stops, the screen says "Turn your camera back on to continue. The interviewer is waiting." If it does not come back within a minute, you can end the interview there. You are asked to confirm, with Keep waiting or End interview.
  • No camera. Some interviews are a voice conversation only. Your camera is not used or recorded.

Your invitation page and the consent text tell you which applies before you start.

How the conversation goes

  1. The interviewer greets you by your first name, says how many questions there are, that specifics matter more than polish, and that you can take your time. Say when you are ready.
  2. It reads each question in order and listens without interrupting.
  3. If an answer names a result but not how you got there, it may ask once how, specifically.
  4. After each answer it asks whether you would like to add anything or move on, and waits for you.
  5. After the last question it thanks you, says the team will be in touch, and the interview ends by itself.

Everyone applying for the role answers the same technical questions. A few may be added at the end that build on your first interview. The interviewer never asks about citizenship, visas, age, family, health, religion or nationality. You can ask it to repeat a question or put it in simpler words.

Good to know

Answer the way you would to a colleague: what you did, how you did it, and why. Real examples beat textbook definitions.

If the interviewer goes quiet

If the interviewer stops responding, a bar appears: "The interviewer has gone quiet. Wait a moment, or end the interview here and the hiring team will read what was recorded so far." Wait a little first. If it does not come back, select End the interview here.

If the interviewer has already said goodbye but the room is still open, the bar says your interview is finished and offers Finish and save.

When it ends

You see Saving your interview while the recording is stored. Keep the page open. Then a card says Your interview ended at with the time, and confirms it is saved.

You may be asked how the interview went: How was the interview? on a scale of one to five, then star ratings for Let me finish, Replied promptly, Spoke without breaking up and Sounded natural, and a box for a comment. Select Send, or Skip to leave it. Then select Finish, or Back to your applications if you are signed in.

Timing, rescheduling and deadlines

  • The length is set by the employer and shown on your invitation.
  • A booked interview opens ten minutes before your time and can be moved once, up to two hours before it.
  • An interview with a date to complete by can be taken any time before that date. After it, the link stops working.

See Technical interview invitation for the details.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Risenoow technical interview with a person or an AI?

The questions are asked by an AI interviewer. The hiring team reads the transcript and, when there is video, watches the recording. Nothing is decided by the recording alone.

Can I use notes during the technical interview?

The interview is a conversation about your own work. Nothing on the page prevents notes, but the hiring team listens for how you explain things in your own words.

What if my connection drops during the interview?

Open your invitation link again. While the interview is in progress, the page offers Open the interview again or Rejoin the interview. See Devices and troubleshooting.

Can I stop the interview early?

The interviewer aims to get through every question and will keep it brief. If something stops the interview working, such as a camera that will not come back or an interviewer that has gone quiet, the screen offers a way to end it and keep what was recorded.
