Import and export questions¶
Risenoow can save a role's screening questions as a CSV spreadsheet and read one back. Use it to copy questions between roles, edit many questions at once in Excel or another spreadsheet, or build a set from a template.
Where: A role's Questions tab, Import CSV and Export CSV in the toolbar
Who can use it: Administrators and recruiters (recruiters on their own roles)
Time needed: A few minutes
Export the questions¶
- Open the role's Questions tab.
- Select Export CSV.
- The file downloads, named after the role, for example
icu-registered-nurse-screening-questions.csv.
The file opens in Excel with accents and other languages intact. It has one row per question, and one row per input for grouped questions.
The columns¶
Where a cell holds several items, separate them with a bar, the | character, for example Yes | No.
| Column | What to write |
|---|---|
| Question | The question text |
| Answer type | Short answer, Paragraph, Multiple choice, Checkboxes, Yes / No or Rating |
| Options | The choices, or the things to rate, separated by a bar. Leave empty for Short answer and Paragraph |
| Required | Yes or No |
| Accepted answers | The options that meet a requirement, separated by a bar. Leave empty for no requirement |
| If another answer | Flag for review or Auto decline |
| Needs | Any or All, for Checkboxes questions with accepted answers |
| Placeholder | Hint text shown inside a short answer or paragraph box |
| Active | Yes, or No for a disabled question |
| Group heading | A heading shared by several rows that belong to one question |
Rows one after another with the same Group heading become one question with several inputs.
Start from the template¶
In the import window, select Download a template. It is a filled in example with one row of each answer type, including a requirement set to Auto decline and one set to Flag for review.
Import questions¶
- Select Import CSV. The Import questions from CSV window opens.
- Under CSV file, choose your file (up to 1 MB).
- Under Where they go, choose Add to the end of this list, or Replace all the current questions.
- Select Import.
- A message confirms how many questions were imported, or that the questions were replaced.
Replacing is only for roles nobody has applied to
Once anyone has applied, Replace all is greyed out, because their answers belong to the current questions. You can still add imported questions to the end.
How a file is checked¶
Every row is checked before anything is saved. If any row has a problem, nothing is imported and the message lists the problems by row number, so you can fix the file and try again. Common problems:
- A row with no question, or an answer type that is not one of the six.
- A choice or rating question with fewer than two options, or more than 40.
- An accepted answer that is not one of the question's options.
- Auto decline with no accepted answer.
- Accepted answers on a Short answer, Paragraph or Rating question.
- Required or Active not written as Yes or No.
- More than 100 questions in one file.
The first row must be the column headings, with at least Question and Answer type. Columns can be in any order, and files saved with commas, semicolons or tabs all work.
Frequently asked questions¶
How do I copy questions from one role to another?¶
Export the questions from the first role, open the second role's Questions tab, select Import CSV, choose the file and select Import.
Do requirements come across in the file?¶
Yes. Accepted answers, If another answer and Needs carry each question's requirement, and an import sets them again.
Why did my import add nothing?¶
At least one row had a problem. The message lists the first few by row number. Fix them and import the whole file again.
Does import change the voice or technical questions?¶
No. The CSV holds the written screening questions only.
